The Making of Justin Timberlake: Disney, NSYNC, and Justified

Justin Timberlake’s journey to superstardom began in the early ’90s with a stint on The Mickey Mouse Club (1993–94), where he shared the screen with future stars like Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Ryan Gosling, and his future NSYNC bandmate JC Chasez.

NSYNC was formed in 1995, though it would take until 1998 before their debut album was released. The group went on to become one of the most successful boy bands of all time, selling over 70 million records. Their biggest tunes include This I Promise You, Bye Bye Bye, and Girlfriend.

In 2001, Timberlake wrote a song intended for Michael Jackson. While the King of Pop turned it down, he reportedly encouraged Justin to pursue a solo career. Taking that advice to heart, Justin teamed up with Pharrell Williams and began crafting his debut album.

His first solo single, Like I Love You, was launched with a live performance at the 2002 MTV Video Music Awards—an ideal stage for introducing himself as a solo artist. Just months later, Justified was released. Powered by its strong production and Justin’s already established fame, the album debuted at #2 and eventually sold over 10 million copies. It featured hits like Cry Me A River, Rock Your Body, Señorita, and Like I Love You, officially making Justin Timberlake a household name.

Justin Timberlake: From SexyBack to Trolls Smash Hit

Following the enormous success of his debut album, Justin toured the world, ventured into acting, and co-wrote Where Is The Love with the Black Eyed Peas.

His second studio album, FutureSex/LoveSounds, featured major hits like SexyBack, LoveStoned, My Love, and What Goes Around… Comes Around.

After his successful VMA debut in 2002, Justin returned in 2006 to perform SexyBack, proving the formula still worked.

Following another world tour, he shifted focus to film roles and co-writing credits before returning in 2013 with Mirrors, from the album The 20/20 Experience.

Further collaborations and high-profile appearances followed, leading up to the release of his most popular tune in 2016.

For the animated film Trolls, Justin dropped the single Can’t Stop The Feeling, launching it during the Eurovision Song Contest interval—an ideal platform that helped propel it straight to #1.

Seven years on, Can’t Stop The Feeling has racked up nearly 1.5 billion Spotify streams—almost four times more than Rock Your Body, and double that of his second most-streamed track, Mirrors.
