Aguilera started alongside Justin and Britney!
Christina Aguilera launched her career alongside Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake on The Mickey Mouse Club, an American TV show that became a breeding ground for future pop superstars.
Today, she sells out stadiums worldwide and has inspired thousands of young singers. Let’s take a look at the tunes that got her there.
After recording Reflection for Disney’s Mulan in 1998, Aguilera signed with RCA and released her self-titled debut album the following year. Two massive hits from this record, Genie in a Bottle and What a Girl Wants, made her a household name.
She quickly followed up with two albums—one in Spanish and a Christmas album—suggesting her label had global domination in mind. Around this time, she also recorded a new version of Lady Marmalade for the film Moulin Rouge, alongside Pink, Mýa, and Lil’ Kim.
In 2002, Aguilera released Stripped, her fourth album, which featured Beautiful, Dirrty, and Fighter—songs that cemented her status as a global superstar within just a few years.
Her next album, Back to Basics (2006), paid tribute to her musical influences with a vintage sound. Produced in part by Mark Ronson, it featured Candyman and Ain’t No Other Man, though surprisingly, nothing directly referencing her idol, Etta James.
After this, Aguilera continued releasing albums, but the hit singles became less frequent. Her most notable chart success in later years came from a guest appearance on Moves Like Jagger with Maroon 5 in 2011.
While new hits may be scarce, with a catalogue of around ten worldwide smashes, Christina Aguilera has more than enough to sustain a lifetime of stadium tours.
