I got that sunshine in my pocket, got that good soul in my feet.

And ain’t nobody leavin’ soon, so keep dancin’.

Chord Progressions – What’s Going On?
If you search online for Can’t Stop the Feeling chords, you’ll likely come across this progression:
| C | Am | F | Am |
Some versions may include Am7 and Fmaj7, which are close to the truth but not entirely accurate.
What’s really happening is a C chord in root position—C – E – G—while the bass line moves beneath it: C – A – F – A.
A more precise way to notate the chord progression is:
||: C | C/A | C/F | C/A :||
Alternatively, aligning the chords with the bass, you could write:
||: C | Am7 | Fmaj9omit3 | Am7 :||
Though to me, this just adds unnecessary complexity.
The real challenge is figuring out how to play these chords, as apart from the breakdown, there’s no guitar part to copy. As usual, I took inspiration from the other instruments to develop a workable guitar part. There’s TAB of my conclusions further down this guitar lesson.
Bridge
The bridge begins with a chord that can be seen as either Bb/C or C11—essentially the same—followed by Bb11 and Bb. It concludes with Fm7 – Bb11.

Can’t Stop The Feeling | TAB
Let’s explore several ideas for the main chord progression. A tremolo effect is highly recommended if you’re playing without a keyboard player, essentially taking on that role with your guitar.
Idea 1: This first approach works, though bar 3 feels slightly disjointed. Using the low E string here is even trickier.

Idea 2: My favourite method, smoother and closer to the recording. Requires fingerpicking since strumming over a muted 5th string is awkward.

Idea 3: Another variation. Two versions over the /A chord are provided; using the open A string matches the original note order in the C chord.

Idea 4: Later in the song, the guitar enters on a repeating loop that can be played over the verse and chorus.

Bridge
Idea 1: Leave a gap at the end to allow time to move between chords.

Idea 2: A practical rhythm approach for a part without a defined rhythm, designed not to get in the way of the vocal.

Breakdown
Here we finally get a part that can be copied directly. Notice the rest for a bar at the end before the chorus; this odd number of bars gives the upcoming chorus extra energy

Using fan videos to reach success
Originally intended for the Trolls soundtrack, Can’t Stop the Feeling! was released six months before the film and quickly became a massive hit.
Written and produced by Justin Timberlake alongside Swedish pop masterminds Max Martin and Shellback, the song topped the charts in over 30 countries in 2016. The cleverly crafted music video featured Timberlake performing everyday activities, subtly encouraging fans to create their own versions—much like Pharrell did with Happy.
With the combination of a hit film, a chart-topping single, and viral fan videos, Can’t Stop the Feeling! became one of the biggest songs of its decade. Many chord websites misinterpret its progression, but above you’ll find the correct chords and lyrics, showcasing Swedish pop production at its finest.
