Can’t Stop The Feeling Chords: Learn the progressions!

Search the web for Can’t Stop The Feeling chords and you’ll find this:

| C | Am | F | Am | or in some cases, Am7 and Fmaj7.

Am7 is kind of correct, but not absolutely perfect. What is actually going on is a C chord in the root position (as keyboard players like to say). This means root, 3rd, 5th. So C – E – G, in that order.

Below this chord, the bass changes from C – A – F – A. So the best way to write the chord progression of Can’t Stop The Feeling is this:

||: C | C/A | C/F | C/A :||

Should you want to write this down as chords starting on each root note, you could say:

||: C | Am7 | Fmaj9omit3 | Am7 :||

But this is just making it unnecessarily complicated.

The bridge could be seen as starting off with a Bb/C or a C11, which is the same thing. This is followed by Bb11Bb.

Can’t Stop The Feeling used fan videos to reach success!

Originally intended to be just the soundtrack for the animated film Trolls, Can’t Stop The Feeling! was released six months before the film as a single and instantly took off.

Written and produced by Justin Timberlake and Swedish pop producers Max Martin and Shellback the song climbed high in the charts in 2016. Hitting the #1 spot in over 30 countries.

In the very clever music video seeing Justin doing everyday things, what he actually did was encourage fans to make their own versions, something Pharrell also did for his, also animated film single, Happy.

Adding the film, the single success, and the fan video altogether makes Can’t Stop The Feeling one of the biggest songs of its decade.

The chord progression has been misinterpreted by every chord website I’ve seen, above, you find the correct chords and lyrics for Can’t Stop The Feeling, it’s got Swedish pop production simplicity written all over it!
