From Nirvana to Foo Fighters, Dave Grohl is our time’s greatest rock star!
While touring with Nirvana, Dave Grohl spent much of his downtime recording demos. When Kurt Cobain tragically passed away and Nirvana came to an end, Dave launched a solo project by recording those demos under a new name—Foo Fighters.
On the first album, Dave played all the instruments and sang all the vocals himself. He circulated the recordings within the music industry, formed a band to support the release, and was soon picked up by Capitol Records.
Dave Grohl stands as one of the few true rock stars still active today, having played pivotal roles in two generation-defining bands.
Learn These Five Classic Foo Fighters Tunes
All My Life, the opening track from Foo Fighters’ fourth studio album One By One, became their most successful single, spending ten weeks atop the alternative charts. By this point, Foo Fighters had become a global phenomenon—Nirvana was now just something Dave used to be part of.
Monkey Wrench, a straight-ahead rocker from their second album The Colour and the Shape, was released as the lead single. This album also gave us Everlong and My Hero, both of which became fan favourites.
From the 2005 double album In Your Honour, we find the soaring anthem Best of You, a tune that also works surprisingly well in acoustic arrangements.
In 2007, the band released Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace, with The Pretender as the standout track. It became a defining moment in their catalogue and cemented Dave Grohl’s place in rock superstardom.
All these tunes were later compiled on the 2009 Greatest Hits album—an essential collection for any Foo Fighters fan.
