Another one-hit wonder who got short-changed by the music industry!
Robin Stone, better known as Robin S, began her career in the late ’70s, singing in a Top 40 band. By the late ’80s, she was recording tracks for songwriters and producers Allen George and Fred McFarlane.
Their early collaborations saw little success—until a Swedish house music DJ duo remixed Show Me Love. Practically overnight, Robin S became the voice of an international dance anthem.
In the video above, she shares the story of how the track catapulted her to global fame.
The success of Show Me Love led to further releases, but only the follow-up single, Luv 4 Luv (sometimes listed as Love for Love), gained significant traction.
As Robin reveals in the video, she never received a share of the profits from Show Me Love. Despite this, the hit gave her a platform to release more Robin S tunes, but she was ultimately unable to fully capitalise on the momentum.
This places Robin S among the ranks of one-hit wonders, alongside artists like Mary Wells, Freda Payne, CeCe Peniston, Sixpence None the Richer, Deep Blue Something, Gary Jules, Vance Joy, Gotye, and many others.
