CeCe Peniston: Not Just a One-Hit Wonder!

Most famous for her 1991 dance anthem Finally, CeCe Peniston originally wrote the song as a poem during a Biology class in high school.

In the early days, CeCe was known for her impressive vocal talent, which led to some session work as a backing vocalist. During one of these sessions, the producers asked if she had any original material. CeCe pulled out her poem, crafted a melody, and the producers “did the music” around it.

Believing they had a hit on their hands, they sent it off to the label she had worked with for backing vocals, and she was quickly signed. The single launched CeCe into the spotlight, reaching the top 10 worldwide and eventually selling 3 million copies.

Although Finally was her biggest success, CeCe Peniston wasn’t a one-hit wonder. She continued to release numerous albums and singles throughout her career, with notable highlights such as her 1998 cover of Somebody Else’s Guy. This 1984 hit by Jocelyn Brown was produced by Jocelyn herself.
