From Kiss Me to Christmas: The Journey of Sixpence None The Richer
Sixpence None The Richer is a Christian rock band best known for their hit single Kiss Me, along with covers of Don’t Dream It’s Over by Crowded House and There She Goes by The La’s.
The band has gone through both breakups and reunions since Kiss Me catapulted them to international fame in 1998. The tune gained further traction after being featured on the She’s All That soundtrack in 1999 and has since appeared in several other films and TV shows.
Kiss Me alone was enough to give the band worldwide success. Unfortunately, with only cover songs to follow, Sixpence None The Richer became widely regarded as a one-hit-wonder. By 2004, the band decided to call it quits.
After a few solo projects, the members regrouped and released The Dawn of Grace in 2008—a Christmas album that marked a return to their Christian roots and included a holiday tour.
The reunion seemed to reignite something in the band, and in 2012 they released Lost in Transition, featuring new original material.
Christianity Today gave the album four out of five stars—but for most listeners, Kiss Me remained the only tune they remembered.
