Levitating Chords: Learn the progression
At first glance, you may think Levitating is just a three-chord song as it only goes from VI – III – II – VI.
In the key of Bm that works out like this over only two bars:

I put min7 extensions on all those chords but in reality, we move between the minor triad and min7 extension and a lot of the time, keep the last Bm chord as just a triad.

Once you have that in place, you can play Levitating’s chords in an improvised way, even exploring the fretboard as you play it for a living, making people dance.
On the gig, you’ll only need this chord chart, mainly to ensure the structure is correct, as you’ll know how to play Levitating’s chord by now!

How Much of Songwriting Is Rewriting?
It’s common knowledge that professional songwriters and producers don’t wait for inspiration—they go to work!
Going to work means creating something, rearranging it, or finding a part in another song that can be tweaked and developed into something new.
In the case of Levitating, I can hear two clear influences. I’m not saying these two were used as “inspiration,” I’m just saying I can hear it.
The first thing I hear is Thinking of You by Sister Sledge. It’s just an overall vibe.
The other part I hear is the breakdown section from Blame It on the Boogie. Even the lyrics are similar in that case.
Can you hear any other tunes in Levitating? If so, how do you feel about it? Do you condemn it, or do you feel that maybe writing songs is something you could do?
