Chord Progressions – What’s Going On?
Calvin Harris and Dua Lipa‘s One Kiss is built around a single chord progression, which is as follows:

The key to getting this right lies in the smallest details. For instance, getting the inversions spot on is essential—if you don’t, it won’t sound like One Kiss‘s chords; it will simply sound like a bunch of chords. To achieve this, you’ll need the correct TAB (available further down this lesson).
Bridge
The bridge is nearly identical—see if you can spot the difference:

The chorus tag repeats the same chords, but there’s a nice little lick in there—again, TAB will guide you through it.

One Kiss | TAB
Here’s the main riff using TAB:
By studying these five bars of TAB and comparing them with the chords and lyrics, you’ll notice that the bridge uses Bb instead of Bbmaj7. In the TAB, there’s no maj7 either, as we leave that extension to the keyboard player, it makes them happy.
There’s a variation before every chorus tag, where we don’t play Am at the end. Sometimes there’s also a rest. Use the chords and lyrics or chord chart to note these details.
The chorus tag uses the same chords, but there’s a nice little lick. Here’s what it looks like in TAB:
If you examine the intervals in the 2nd bar, you can see a C triad (the 3rd of Bb), followed by a #11. This makes sense as Bbmaj7 is chord IV in Lydian.
Finally, the breakdown section, which is also used for bridge 3, changes the chords. Here it is:

Dua Lipa’s signature song
Released in 2018 under Calvin Harris’s name, One Kiss featured Dua Lipa, which helped her reach a much larger audience, thanks to Calvin’s established reputation.
Before One Kiss, Dua Lipa had released a self-titled debut album in 2017, but it didn’t produce any significant hits.
However, once One Kiss became a massive success, her follow-up album, Future Nostalgia (2020), was embraced by a much bigger crowd.
Though this wasn’t a guaranteed recipe for success, it certainly gave her a strong platform to build on. Fortunately, she delivered with hits like Don’t Start Now and Levitating.
For bands playing more modern dance material, One Kiss has become a staple on setlists, always guaranteed to get a great reaction from the younger crowd.
