More streams than The Beatles!
Born in London with Albanian roots, Dua Lipa came into the worldwide public consciousness during the early half of 2018.
Her self-titled debut album was released in mid-2017 but singles from it had been coming out already since 2015. An impressive 8 singles appeared from this album, 6 of which reached the top 10. The final one released in January 2018, was IDGAF.
After the final single from the album was released, her signature song, One Kiss, dropped in April 2018. This propelled her to worldwide superstardom and boosted sales of her debut album.
One Kiss was released under the name Calvin Harris, featuring Dua Lipa. Straight in at #1, it became the song of the year in 2018. Sales have since reached almost 10 million worldwide.
Lipa’s second album came in 2020. Called Future Nostalgia, it had another classic tune in Don’t Start Now. With 1.8 million sales in the U.K. and 7 million in the U.S., it is perhaps the streaming numbers in South Korea that are the most impressive, with 100 million streams.
A further 5 singles have been released from the album, Levitating being the one that stands out the most, having as good sales as Don’t Start Now.
Her latest release is a cover, contributing to PNAU’s remix of Elton John’s classic Cold Heart.
A glance at her Spotify numbers shows how One Kiss, Don’t Start Now, Levitating, and Cold Heart all have around 2 billion streams each. As a reference, only one Beatles tune has gone past 1 billion (as of 2023).
