I’m Yours Chords: Learn the progressions
Jason Mraz‘s I’m Yours chord progression for the verse/chorus section is simple and very common with its I – V – VI – IV progression.
In the key of B, that’s:
||: B (I) | F# (V) | G#m (VI) | E IV) :||
It’s so common, that this is recognized as the safe bet for modern hits, I placed it at #3 on my top 10 chord progression list.
Using a capo and playing high up the neck, makes it much more difficult in terms of seeing the chords, but maybe you should think of them as A – E – F#m – D instead. Above, I’ve written both with lyrics.
Make sure you can see how the chord progression is the same with a capo, like this with Roman Numerals:

I like pairing the chords with that 2nd guitar lick, this gives the chords extensions, like this:
||: A A6 | E Eadd9 | F#m | D Dmaj9 :||
Although this requires TAB to know how to incorporate it (see how further down this page).
There’s also a middle 8 section which moves down from the I chord, like this:
||: A (I) E/G# (V/3) | F#m (VI) E (V) | D (IV) | B (IIx) :||
That last chord (IIx) is outside the key, being major instead of minor wakes the listener up. Compare it with American Pie which also uses this chord.

Having a simple chart like the above is my favourite. It doesn’t tell you how many times we play the verse or chorus as they have the same chords.
All it does is tell you what the chords are, list the lick as chord extensions and show you the middle 8 chords.
I feel that when you play a song, you should know it really well, the chart is just a gentle reminder so you’ll perhaps glance at it before you start, getting a reminder of what intervals the lick has.
Halfway through the song, I give it another glance to just remind me of the middle 8 chords, it relaxes me to know it’s there.
I’ve found if I put everything in, it gets so cluttered and I end up staring at it which makes me play less well.

I put I’m Yours on YouTube before Jason Mraz!
In hindsight, the rest of the world agreed with Spy Tunes that I’m Yours was the song of 2008 but it took a while!
I recorded this tune in 2007 and received over a million plays on YouTube very quickly (the account has since been deleted).
Based on the original EP version (Extra Credit ’05) I decided that if Jason wasn’t going to release this obvious monster hit, then I would!
In May 2008, Mraz finally came to his senses and released it as the first single off his album We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things.
At first, sales were slow but by late 2009 it was clear that I’m Yours was the best-selling song since the Millennium with 13 million sales in the U.S. alone.
It also spent the longest time in the Billboard charts (74 weeks), a world record at the time.
