You can learn how to play Cake By The Ocean by DNCE!

Behind Cake By The Ocean, we find DNCE, a band that was formed from members of the live band behind Jonas Brothers, a teenage boyband launched through the Disney channel.

On lead vocals, we have Joe Jonas who started out with his brothers at the tender age of 15.

Cake By The Ocean was the band’s debut and most successful single to date, climbing high in the charts worldwide.

Produced by Swedish production duo Mattman & Robin, who also worked with Taylor Swift on her album 1989, the song has had a long-term impact as it can still be heard on the radio many years later.

The extremely repetitive chord progression makes it an easy addition to the set list for bar and event bands who seem to have embraced Cake By The Ocean with open arms.

Cake By The Ocean chord progression

Deceivingly simple, we seemingly only move from Em to Am, a VI – II and my #10 on the top ten chord progression list.

However, in between, we first visit Bm, then move chromatically down via Bbm.

In the next bar, to get back, we go to C, followed by B.

This change between Bm and B every other bar is all you need as a listener to feel as if this loop must never stop – important criteria when dancing!
