Let Me Entertain You Backing Tracks | Chord Analysis
Above, you’ll find backing tracks to use when learning Let Me Entertain You. I’ve used stem separation to extract the guitar while keeping the drums, bass, keys, some horns, and vocals intact.
After studying the chords and TAB, use my backing tracks to prepare for playing this tune with a band.
Should you want to play along with the original recording instead, you need to tune your guitar sharp to 441Hz. In the backing tracks, I’ve done this job for you by tuning it to 440Hz.
Chord Progressions – What’s Going On?
Robbie Williams‘ epic Let Me Entertain You has the energy of a song written to open a show, much like Diana Ross’ legendary I’m Coming Out almost twenty years earlier.
Built around a four-bar chord progression that seems to loop endlessly, gradually introduces a few notable variations.
Verse
The verse follows a progression of I – bIIIx – IV – I, maintaining the root of the I chord. Every other time, the IV chord takes on a sus4, as shown here:

This progression breaks several harmonic rules. For instance, the IV chord typically wouldn’t feature a sus4, as it would be Lydian (with a #4).
Additionally, the bIIIx chord lies outside the key. In essence, we’re navigating through F Ionian (F, chord I), F Aeolian (for the Ab chord), and F Mixolydian (for the Bbsus4 chord), creating a unique tension through modal interchange.
Bridge + Chorus
For the bridge and chorus, the progression remains the same but without the F in the bass.
As a guitarist, your role will shift depending on the size of the band you’re playing with. In a larger band, your part may become more subdued.

Once you understand the core concepts, this chord chart will allow you to improvise your part, depending on the setting.

Let Me Entertain You | TAB
The original recording is a massive production, and if you’re lucky enough to play in a band with that many members, you’ll soon realise that your part needs to be extremely defined and simple, or it won’t cut through the mix.
However, on the road to get there, you’ll probably need to play in smaller bands, maybe just a three-piece.
Let Me Entertain You provides a great lesson in how to play in these two different scenarios. Let’s start by looking at how you can play the verse if it’s just you, the bass, and drums.
Play this if it’s just you, the bass, and the drums. You’ll want to leave the powerful low end to the bass and take care of the excitement (choppy rhythms) and harmony (full chords and extensions).
Should there be a pianist on the gig, along with BVs and horns, the above part would be too much; you don’t want to step on everyone’s toes. Instead, try this for the verse (leave the intro to the pianist).
First of all, notice how the first beat has a different rhythm. Ideally, you’ll use a wah-wah pedal for this muted chucking, only letting the chords appear at the end of the bar.
Once you can play the part above, you can let go and improvise it, just maintaining the general idea.
OK, back to the three-piece band. Let’s now look at the chorus.
It’s very similar to the verse; the only difference is the Ab, which replaces the Bbsus4. That’s it!
I would encourage you to play along to the backing tracks using Idea 1 for both the verse and chorus. The bridge is the same as the chorus, just without the short Ab.
Once you can play it, feel free to loosen up a bit; it doesn’t have to be exactly like the example for every bar.
Finally, let’s look at what you can do in a big band for the chorus.
As there are so many other players in the band, focus on providing a powerful low mid using power chords – it’s that simple!
When you feel confident with all this TAB, try it all to the backing tracks, using only the chord chart as a guide.
