Gary Moore: The Guitar Legend Who Played “Everything on 10”
Gary Moore, a legendary guitarist from Northern Ireland, is best known for his iconic album Still Got The Blues and his work with Thin Lizzy. With over 40 albums to his name, Moore is undoubtedly one of the most influential British guitarists of all time.
A true aficionado of the Gibson Les Paul and Marshall amps, Moore’s sound could best be described as “everything on 10.” His famous Les Paul originally belonged to Peter Green, who played it at much lower volumes, with Gary taking it to a new level.
Gary Moore’s two biggest hits
Initially, Parisienne Walkways was an instrumental, but Moore collaborated with Phil Lynott of Thin Lizzy, who wrote the lyrics, played bass, and sang on the track. Released in 1979, the song reached #8 on the UK Singles Chart and became an instant classic.
Gary clearly loved the tune, as he would later reinvent it on his most successful album, Still Got The Blues. The title track of that album, Still Got The Blues, became Gary Moore’s signature song and marked his greatest commercial success.
It’s clear that by this point, Moore had cemented his place as one of the greatest guitarists of his time, with the world’s top musicians eager to be part of his project.
In my opinion, this is mainly thanks to his two biggest hits – Parisienne Walkways and Still Got The Blues. use these two as a starting point to discover the rest of his impressive back catalogue.
