Before Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours, there was Peter Green!

Long before Fleetwood Mac became a global phenomenon with the iconic album Rumours, featuring Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham, the band was led by Peter Green, a guitarist whose influence on blues and rock music remains legendary.

Peter Green, along with drummer Mick Fleetwood, founded the band, with John McVie later joining the lineup. Under the name Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac, the group became known for its blues hits, including Need Your Love So Bad, Elmore James’ Shake Your Money Maker, and the iconic instrumental Albatross. While they earned recognition in the blues scene, their fame was overshadowed by the later incarnation of Fleetwood Mac, which produced Rumours, one of the best-known albums of all time.

Green’s guitar playing was revered by his peers, particularly by blues legend B.B. King, who regarded him as one of the best. Need Your Love So Bad is a prime example of his incredible skill and emotional depth.

For any aspiring guitarist, diving into Peter Green’s playing style—particularly his soulful licks—is a rewarding experience that will enrich your musical understanding.
