Duffy’s Meteoric Rise and Mysterious Disappearance
After releasing a Welsh-language EP (Aimée Duffy) in 2004, which caught the attention of A&M Records, Duffy went on to release her debut album Rockferry in 2008.
Critically acclaimed, the album featured the global hit Mercy, along with standout tracks like Syrup & Honey, Warwick Avenue, and Stepping Stone.
Behind the record were key collaborators including Bernard Butler (guitarist of Suede), producer Steve Booker, and songwriters Jimmy Hogarth and Eg White.
A top ten album in 23 countries, Rockferry made Duffy an international star. With a path to lasting success seemingly guaranteed, it came as a surprise when she announced a break from music in early 2011.
Nearly a decade later, Duffy revealed that her absence had been the result of a harrowing ordeal: she had been drugged, kidnapped, and sexually abused, starting on her birthday and lasting four weeks. The perpetrator was never publicly named or charged.
