For the chorus, the chords follow I – V/3 – VI – V – IV – V, repeating before resolving to the I chord instead of V at the end:

The middle 8 (or bridge) section primarily moves V – IV – I, repeating three times before transitioning to VI – II – V – I – V. The 2/4 bar at the end creates a natural ritardando effect:

Crazy Love | TAB
No matter whether it’s played on acoustic guitar as the only instrument or on electric in a band, you can improvise your rhythm part when you play Crazy Love.
Let’s go through a bunch of TAB examples that demonstrate how the chords could be put together, especially aimed at the acoustic guitar.
Learn these first as they are. Once you stop staring at the TAB, your own unique variations will naturally appear. If you can play it on the acoustic, you can easily develop the ideas into smaller parts for electric.
Here’s idea 1 for Crazy Love’s verse.
This is a pretty simple part. I’m trying to separate the bass from the chords by playing the bass, then the chord. The bass line is written as chords, even though we’re just playing the roots.
Here’s a much more complex way to play the verse.
As the chord progression is already established (it’s the same loop over and over), we can just hint at it—even though it’s only one guitar.
We don’t have to play bass, then chord. For the run-down in the last bar, we play the root and thirds, then a major pentatonic lick.
If you play both ideas until they feel comfortable, you can start mixing the concepts in an improvised way.
Here’s a chorus idea. This section moves I – V/3 – II – V – IV – V. After repeating, we go to I, not V.
It doesn’t have to be a D—it can be a D5. It doesn’t have to be an F#m—it can be an F#m7. The last lick can be written as chords (add9 and 6), or we can just think of it as a major pentatonic lick.
Here’s another chorus idea—it’s simpler.
Again, learn both ideas, then start blending them or changing them.
Finally, here’s the middle 8 section.
First, learn it as written. Then mix it up, swap ideas over, and finally, let go and just improvise, using the backing tracks and chord chart.
