Chord Progressions – What’s Going On?
This entire lesson makes a strong case for using a capo or changing key. It simply makes far more sense to play in A than in Bb, especially if you’re the only acoustic guitarist supporting a vocal.
Let’s start with the verse:

There are some lovely movements here. A standout is Dm/F — a IVm chord with its minor third in the bass — giving it a rich, expressive pull.
Compare this to the same progression in Bb, and it’s clear how much less guitar-friendly it becomes:

Let’s take a look at how the chords sit in Bob Dylan’s version when transposed to C, either by using a capo or simply changing key. Here’s the verse.

This works beautifully on guitar — it’s a very natural fit, and arranging it acoustically in this key was a real pleasure (TAB further down).
In Db, on the other hand, it’s a different story entirely:

Released on Time Out of Mind (1997), Make You Feel My Love by Bob Dylan has undeniably become a modern standard.
With over 450 recorded cover versions, Adele’s rendition is perhaps the most famous. Interestingly, she played bass on her version of the song.
What’s fascinating is that one version was actually released before Dylan’s — Billy Joel recorded and released it a month earlier, in August 1997, as the lead single from Greatest Hits Vol. II.
