One of the world’s most influential funk bands!

The Meters are one of those bands that are more well-known among musicians and artists, than the general public.

Having played as a backing band for Dr. John, Professor Longhair, and Robert Palmer, they also recorded their own material, most famously Cissy Strut and Just Kissed My Baby.

Formed in 1965 in New Orleans, they would come to influence James Brown, Funkadelic, Cameo, and Sly and the Family Stone and therefore must be considered as an important pillar among the founders of funk.

Later on, they would also be sampled by the hip-hop community through artists such as Ice Cube, LL Cool J, Beastie Boys, Cypress Hill, and Public Enemy.
