Gimme Some Lovin’ chords and progression
The main riff is just an octave but the root note is hammered on from the b7, hence the strange-sounding chord G7omit3.
The Hammond organ riff uses extensions 6 and b7. When it’s the Blues Brothers version, it’s played by a horn section. You could play this riff on the guitar by finding the chord extensions.
The chorus is the only actual chord progression of the song as it goes I – bIIIx – IV – bVIx. Compare this to Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit, which uses the same chords but in a slightly different order.
As you go through the Blues Brothers version below, notice how the arrangement, and lyrics are different. It’s easier since it’s more repetitive. Singers find it easier in this key too, almost like it was made for a covers band!

The Spencer Davis Group or Blues Brothers?
There are two versions of this song and for some reason, whenever it is called on a gig, it’s the cover version, but when it’s played on the radio or by a DJ, it’s the original version!
Originally released by The Spencer Davis Group in 1966, it went top 10 in 7 countries, including #2 in the U.K.
In 1980, the Blues Brothers‘ soundtrack released a cover version using a simpler arrangement in a lower key and got it into the top 20 in the U.S.
You must study both versions as the key, lyrics, and arrangement all vary!
