Feeder has had more drummers than I’ve had hot dinners!

Feeder is a rock band from South Wales that formed in the mid-’90s, founded by singer/guitarist Grant Nicholas, bassist Taka Hirose, and drummer Jon Lee.

The peak of the band’s fame came in the early 2000s with the single Buck Rogers from the album Echo Park (2001), along with awards from indie rock magazine Kerrang!.

Drummer Jon Lee passed away in early 2002 and was replaced by Skunk Anansie’s Mark Richardson.

Together, they recorded the band’s second most popular album, Comfort In Sound (2002).

Mark remained a member until 2009 when Skunk Anansie reunited.

Following Mark’s departure, several session drummers stepped in to keep the band going, including Karl Brazil and Damon Wilson.

I know both Mark and Damon; both are great drummers. Mark made a music video for a band I was in (Head On, Colour Of Noise), and Damon and I toured stadiums for a year with another band I was in (Will and the People).

I remember this time clearly, as every rock drummer I knew tried to get into Feeder, who by then had a steady following, regular tours, festival appearances, and records to make.

Unfortunately, this era marked the downturn of the band and set Grant Nicholas on a solo career, recording more sensitive acoustic material.

Soul Mates was the first and most successful single from his forthcoming album Yorktown Heights.

Two years later, Feeder reunited and released All Bright Electric (2016), and the following year the obligatory greatest hits album, The Best of Feeder appeared.

The band’s latest album, Black/Red, was released in 2024, thirty years after they officially formed.

Soul Mates is the first single from Grant Nicholas’s solo career. As a sensitive acoustic tune, it was a far cry from his previous indie rock band Feeder.
