Doris Day: One of America’s Best-Loved Entertainers

Having achieved success as a big band singer, film actress, recording artist, and radio and television performer, Doris Day became one of America’s most beloved entertainers of the 1950s.

On the silver screen, Doris starred alongside legends like Bob Hope, Frank Sinatra, Jack Lemmon, Cary Grant, and Clark Gable. Her singing career began in 1945, and she quickly racked up a string of hit tunes.

Her chart success included Sentimental Journey and My Dreams Are Getting Better All The Time, both of which she recorded with Les Brown and both reached No. 1 in 1945.

For the next 22 years, she continued to build on these early hits with songs like Again, A Guy Is A Guy, Secret Love, Que Sera, Sera, Dream a Little Dream of Me, Fly Me to the Moon, and Over the Rainbow.

In 2011, Doris released her final studio album, My Heart, making her the oldest artist to enter the U.K. Top 10 at 89 years old. Doris Day passed away in 2019 at the age of 97.
