CeeLo Green: From Gnarls Barkley to Solo Stardom with Crazy and Forget You
CeeLo Green first achieved international success as part of the duo Gnarls Barkley, collaborating with producer Danger Mouse. Together, they created the worldwide smash hit Crazy. After a few years, the duo parted ways, and CeeLo embarked on a solo career.
In a writing session with Bruno Mars, CeeLo crafted another global hit: Forget You, originally titled Fck You. This clever marketing move involved releasing the song under three different names, ensuring widespread attention.
Following Forget You, CeeLo also released It’s OK, which had the potential to be a major hit. I remember when it first came out in 2010—many bands on the circuit thought it would be as big as Forget You. However, while Forget You and Crazy became staples in the working band’s repertoire, It’s OK never quite reached the same level of success.
In addition to his original hits, CeeLo Green has also recorded memorable cover versions of Foxy Lady by Jimi Hendrix and Let’s Stay Together by Al Green.
