Avicii’s stepdad is a Swedish national treasure!

Tim Bergling, better known as Avicii was a songwriter and DJ from Sweden. His actress mother Anki remarried singer and Swedish national treasure Tommy Körberg, which makes most of Avicii’s family either musicians or actors.

Avicii found success by posting his mixes and tunes online. The first that got the general publics’ attention was Levels, where he’d sampled Etta JamesSomething’s Got A Hold Of Me’s intro vocal and married it with house music production.

This happened in 2011, the following year he released I Could Be The One, in partnership with another DJ, Nicky Romero. Vocals came from Swedish singer Noonie Bao. It reached the top 10 in 17 countries.

Next, Avicii finally dropped his first album, entitled True. Here we find his biggest tune, Wake Me Up. Co-written with Aloe Blacc (I Need A Dollar) who also provided vocals and Incubus Mike Einziger who played the acoustic guitar, the latter clearly influenced by Save Tonight (Eagle-Eye Cherry).

Wake Me Up was an enormous success, reaching #1 in 33 countries, selling around 15 million copies worldwide, and becoming Avicii’s signature song.

Another single from the debut, Hey Brother also did well, reaching #1 in the U.K. dance charts until Rather Be (Clean Bandit) came around and knocked it off the top spot.

Addicted To You, the fourth single from the debut clinched the top 10 in 18 countries, proving that Avicii’s dance pop really was what the entire world craved in 2013.

The final single from the album, Lay Me Down, didn’t do as well as the others, even though Nile Rodgers had lent a helping hand.

As an album, True reached the top 10 in ten countries. The album, with its singles and music videos, made Avicii world famous.

Two years later, he released Stories which didn’t have the same success as the debut. The tune For A Better Day would make the biggest stir as it featured a music video containing a plot about child sex trafficking.

After Avicii’s death, rumours started to surface that he, Chester Bennington, Chris Cornell, and Andrew Bourdain hadn’t committed suicide but instead been murdered as they were about to be involved in a documentary about child sex trafficking called The Silent Children.

This rumour has since been debunked, the documentary shelved and the creators claiming none of the above was ever involved. As Avicii passed away in 2018 whilst in Oman, the local police claimed there was nothing dodgy surrounding his death, but online conspiracy theorists disagree.

In 2021, Stockholm Globe Arena (also known as the golf ball) was renamed Avicii Arena.
