Wake Me Up chords

You can learn how to play Wake Me Up by Avicii!

It would be easy to miss the fine details and subtle variations of Wake Me Up’s chords and chord progressions.

At first glance, it seems as if it’s just BmGD on repeat with the occasional stop. However, a closer inspection reveals that the G is a G5, and the same goes for the D.

There is also often, but not always an A in the bass of that D5 chord, and, during the chorus, that A comes in on beat 4.

Is it the case that subtle variations like these are what makes a hit? Is it also the case that working musicians who study the fine details of every song they play get much further than those who don’t? 100%.
