The founders of Blue Eyed Soul!
Amazingly, still active, The Righteous Brothers are an American duo originally formed by Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield in 1962.
Their most active recording period was up until 1969 on labels Moonglow, Phillies (Phil Spector’s label), and Verve.
During this time, the duo released their two most successful tunes You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’ and Unchained Melody.
Following a few years apart, they would reunite to tour and record again until Hatfield died in 2003.
The music they performed is sometimes dubbed, Blue Eyed Soul, a term coined to describe white Soul singers like The Righteous Brothers and U.K.’s Dusty Springfield among others.
Perhaps Bill and Bob claimed it as they named their second album Some Blue Eyed Soul, released in 1964.
Outside of the duo, the most successful tune is (I’ve Had The) Time Of My Life, a song Bill Medley sang with Jennifer Warnes in 1987 for the film Dirty Dancing.
