Oasis was an English rock band led by two brothers, guitarist and songwriter Noel Gallagher and lead vocalist Liam Gallagher.
Their biggest tunes include Don’t Look Back In Anger, Champagne Supernova, Live Forever, Stand By Me, Morning Glory, and of course, the immortal Wonderwall.
With eight #1 singles, fifteen NME Awards, nine Q Awards, four MTV Europe awards, and five Brit awards, The Guinness Book Of Hit Singles And Albums declared Oasis the Most Successful Act of the ’90s in the U.K.
Since the ’90s, British music festival culture has become more and more popular and Oasis came to set the standard for what to be expected from a headlining act.
Oasis, Wonderwall, and big U.K. festivals like Glastonbury have become synonymous. So much so that when Jay-Z was headlining in 2008, there was controversy. Glastonbury is for British bands, argued the British press. Jay-Z answered by opening up with Wonderwall.
A year later, when Oasis pulled out of V Festival last minute, Snow Patrol performed the song in honour of receiving their slot.
