From Indie Rock to TV Stardom: Ricky Wilson’s Journey

Formed in 1997 under a different name, Leeds-based rockers Kaiser Chiefs had their first brush with fame in 2003 with an album called 22, before rebranding and giving their debut album a fresh start in 2005.

Now dubbed Employment, the album made a splash on the charts, reaching impressive positions in both Ireland and the U.K. thanks to hit singles like Everyday I Love You Less and Less and their signature track I Predict a Riot.

The band’s follow-up album, Yours Truly, Angry Mob, arrived in 2007, featuring the single Ruby. This track surpassed I Predict a Riot on the charts, eventually reaching #1. It seemed that Kaiser Chiefs were on a steady rise.

However, despite releasing five more studio albums over the years, the band’s later music failed to make as significant an impact on the charts or popular culture.

Meanwhile, frontman Charles Richard Wilson (better known as Ricky Wilson) shifted his focus to television. In 2013, he joined The Voice as a vocal coach and enjoyed success on the show, winning two seasons during his time there.

A decade later, Ricky returned to TV, this time appearing on The Masked Singer, where he impressively finished in third place. It seems the rockstar had found a new stage—this time, not in the music world, but on Saturday night TV.
