From Blues Clubs to Stadium Anthems: The Story of Free
English rockers Free, fronted by future Bad Company singer Paul Rodgers and renowned guitarist Paul Kossoff, formed in London in 1968.
Initially rooted in blues rock, the band shot to worldwide fame with All Right Now—a massive hit penned not by either Paul, but by bassist Andy Fraser.
Although they later had some success with Wishing Well, it was All Right Now that truly defined the band, carrying their career throughout its brief five-year run.
After Free disbanded, all members moved on to other projects, with Paul Rodgers and drummer Simon Kirke finding the most success in Bad Company. Their biggest hit, Can’t Get Enough of Your Love, became a staple of classic rock radio.
Naturally, the crowd never stopped asking for All Right Now—just as it does every Saturday night for cover bands around the world.
