Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons: From Pop Hits to Broadway Fame

Frankie Valli and his Four Seasons released a string of timeless tunes that made them one of the most recognisable bands in popular music.

Their breakthrough came in 1962 with two #1 hits: Sherry and Big Girls Don’t Cry. These weren’t debut singles—they’d been performing under different names for over a decade—but 1962 was the year they truly arrived.

Following their chart-topping success, the Four Seasons continued with a mix of originals and covers. While Walk Like A Man also hit #1, it didn’t endure in the public memory quite like those first two smashes.

In 1964, they scored another lasting hit with Silence Is Golden, followed by Working My Way Back to You in 1966, which only just cracked the top 10 at the time but has since become a fan favourite.

In 1967, Beggin’ was released—a song that’s since gained renewed fame thanks to modern covers and samples. That same year, Frankie Valli’s solo release Can’t Take My Eyes off You became a global hit. Interestingly, though released under his own name, it was written and produced by members of the Four Seasons.

It wasn’t until 1975 that the band would enjoy another worldwide hit with December, 1963 (Oh, What A Night!)—a disco-infused classic that introduced them to a new generation.

In 2005, their incredible story was brought to life on stage with Jersey Boys, a Broadway musical told from the perspective of each member—like the four seasons themselves. A global success, Jersey Boys has played to packed houses on Broadway, London’s West End, and cities around the world including Las Vegas, Toronto, Melbourne, Singapore, and Dubai.
