Plain White T’s: From One-Hit Wonder to Enduring Presence
Plain White T’s seemed on track to become a one-hit wonder after their worldwide smash Hey There Delilah in 2007/08. The song’s immense success, charting in over 20 countries and selling more than 5 million copies, left their other singles—Hate (I Really Don’t Like You), Our Time Now, and Natural Disaster—struggling to make an impact.
However, the band managed to avoid the dreaded one-hit wonder label thanks to two more hits: 1, 2, 3, 4 and Rhythm of Love. While these tracks didn’t quite match the scale of Hey There Delilah, they were enough to keep the band relevant and active in the music scene, preventing them from fading into obscurity like some other bands of their era.
Despite not seeing major chart success since Rhythm of Love in 2010, Plain White T’s have continued to release music, with eight albums to their name since their 2000 debut. Their upcoming album, set for release in November 2023, has fans wondering: could they have another Hey There Delilah on their hands? Only time will tell, but the world will be watching!
