Matt Dennis: From Vaudeville to Iconic Jazz Standards!

Exposed to music from a young age—thanks to his parents, both professional musicians (his mother played the violin, and his father was a singer)—Matt Dennis quickly developed a natural talent for the piano, singing, and arranging.

Starting his career in the Vaudeville tradition, Matt performed with his family from an early age, immersing himself in American showbiz long before he learned to read or write.

Among his most famous compositions are Everything Happens To Me (which Frank Sinatra famously recorded), Will You Still Be Mine, and Angel Eyes.

Of these, Angel Eyes stands out as his most iconic tune. It was so beloved by Dave Brubeck that he recorded an entire album of Matt Dennis songs, aptly titled Angel Eyes.
