From behind the curtain to the limelight!
Apart from the world-famous Ain’t No Stoppin’ Us Now, McFadden & Whitehead also wrote for other artists, which was the inspiration behind their biggest hit.
Starting in Otis Redding’s touring revue, the duo ended up producing and writing tunes for other artists such as the O’Jays, Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes, Gloria Gaynor, and even The Jacksons.
Growing tired of not being in the spotlight, the boys wrote a song about it. Listen to the lyrics, and consider that it was not about racial inequality, but stepping out of the shadows and into the limelight and it all makes sense.
To me, this is one of the funniest misunderstandings in songwriting history!
