Babylon Lyrics

Friday night I’m going nowhere, all the lights are changing green to red
Turning over TV stations, situations running through my head
Well looking back through time, you know it’s clear that I’ve been blind, I’ve been a fool
To ever open up my heart to all that jealousy, that bitterness, that ridicule

Saturday I’m running wild and all the lights are changing red to green
Moving through the crowd I’m pushing chemicals all rushing through my bloodstream
Only wish that you were here, you know I’m seeing it so clear, I’ve been afraid
To tell you how I really feel, admit to some of those bad mistakes I’ve made

If you want it, come and get it, crying out loud
The love that I was, giving you was, never in doubt
Let go your heart, let go your head and feel it now
Babylon, Babylon

Sunday all the lights of London, shining sky is fading red to blue
I’m kicking through the Autumn leaves and wondering where it is you might be going to
Turning back for home, you know I’m feeling so alone, I can’t believe
Climbing on the stair, I turn around to see you smiling there, in front of me

If you want it, come and get it, crying out loud
The love that I was, giving you was, never in doubt

Babylon – Step 1 (Free Preview)

Today we start working on how to play the verse from Babylon by David Gray.

It has a tricky hammer-on and pull-off lick in it.

Go to Babylon step 1.

Babylon – Step 2

Let’s learn the chorus for Babylon. I’ve got two versions here for you. The first is super simple and a bit boring.

The second example is very chaotic looking and comes from what naturally happened when playing with a singer, having just the one guitar.

Babylon – Step 3

Today we play the complete song. I’ve got a chart here for you, it’s in the key of D.

When you play along with me and the singer, you must fit a capo on fret 1 or you’ll create the worst sound in the world by being a semitone out.

Babylon – Step 4

In this step, we build a 2nd guitar part.

Now, when you play with me and the singer, we sound like a band!

Chords and Guitar Lessons

Babylon has a great maj7 chord lick as the main riff, just like another song in the intermediate course, Fast Car.

The chorus has a repetitive progression that is only varied at the end of each line. Progression tricks like this are very common in songs that become hits.
