One of Motown’s greatest stars!
Lionel shot to fame once his band Commodores was signed to Berry Gordy’s label Motown, with their first release in 1974.
Together they would release hits like Easy, Three Times A Lady, Too Hot ta Trot, and my favourite, Brick House.
To this day, Commodores still play live, although, with new members, Lionel left in 1982 to pursue an even more successful solo career.
His first single actually came a year earlier, a collaboration with Diana Ross, My Endless Love. Charting at #1 the world over it was a sign of things to come.
Lionel would next write, record, and release All Night Long, Hello, Penny Lover, We Are The World, Say You, Say Me, Dancing On The Ceiling, and My Destiny.
We Are The World was co-written with Michael Jackson, it would go on to sell 20 million copies making it the 8th best-selling single of all time.
