Jessie J went to China to participate in their version of X Factor!
Jessie J had her first significant gig at the age of 11, starring in an Andrew Lloyd Webber musical in London’s West End called Whistle Down The Wind.
She then studied at the Brit School, an establishment where several other prominent contemporary singers, including Amy Winehouse and Adele, also attended.
In late 2010, at the age of 22, her debut single Do It Like A Dude from the upcoming album Who You Are was released and performed well, charting in 12 countries and reaching #2 in the U.K., launching Jessie J to international recognition.
Early in 2011, she followed up with her signature song, Price Tag, becoming a household name. Selling over 7 million copies and reaching #1 in 19 countries, it was a massive success.
Another single from the debut album, Domino, also performed very well.
Regarding the album, it didn’t match the success of the singles, though over 3 million copies sold is hardly a disappointment. The big question following all this was: How would Jessie J follow this up?
The answer: In 2013, she released Alive, which sold just 100,000 copies and had no hit singles.
Did Jessie J give up after the flop? No chance.
The following year, she released Sweet Talker; the lead single Bang Bang was a huge success with millions of copies, downloads, and streams.
Looking at Spotify, Bang Bang has had three times as many plays as Price Tag!
In 2018, Jessie J dropped her fourth studio album. This time it’s a concept album named R.O.S.E., released over four days under the four themes: Realisations, Obsessions, Sex, and Empowerment. Unfortunately, it was another flop from the London-born singer.
The same year, Jessie tried to play it safe with a Christmas album, but it didn’t do well.
Not afraid to sing covers, she can be heard performing: I Dreamed A Dream, If I Ain’t Got You, I Have Nothing, Rock With You, Get Here, Stay With Me, I Feel Good, I Wanna Dance With Somebody, We Will Rock You, You Should Be Dancing, I Will Always Love You, Imagine, My Heart Will Go On, and River Deep – Mountain High. I’ve included them all in the playlist at the top of this page.
Say what you want about Jessie J; she’s not work-shy! In 2017, she spontaneously went to China and competed in their version of X Factor called “Singer!” She won it.
