Use Chordacus to Find All Chords, Scales, and Arpeggios!
Chordacus is a highly developed version of the classic CAGED system, designed to display all possible chord shapes across five positions.
To get started, simply locate your root note and select the corresponding CAGED shape in either major or minor. From there, you can branch out to build a pentatonic scale, a mode, or extend the chord into more complex variations.
What sets Chordacus apart is its intuitive colour coordination, showing how chord shapes, pentatonic scales, and modes overlap and interact on the fretboard.
Just below Chordacus, you’ll find the SWS (originally named the Song-Writers Swivel), which takes the same concept and organises it by key signature—perfect for applying theory in context.
Chordacus in a key – The SWS
Thinking of a song’s chord progression in Roman numerals and visualising the guitar neck through the five positions of the CAGED system allows you to map out the entire fretboard.
This approach makes it much easier to see how chords, scales, and arpeggios connect across the neck, helping you build a deeper understanding of the guitar’s layout.
Chordacus was developed with this exact mindset, combining theory with fretboard visualisation. With the help of Spytunes student Christian Grafelman, the tool evolved into a practical and intuitive way of navigating harmony—whether you’re building a solo, writing a progression, or simply learning a new tune.
