Learn how to connect all Phrygian Dominant shapes!
Connecting the shapes, this is much more difficult than previous modes due to the more angular layout of Phrygian Dominant.
Use the video lesson to see how this is done, for Phrygian Dominant in any key; try Chordacus.
Once this is all good, try the final cycle of 4ths exercise.
This will take you to place where you will never have to practice Phrygian Dominant ever again.
To see if you do know this scale when you jam, test your self over some Blues Jam Tracks, IIIx – VI is your cue.
As usual, try other rhythms than the straight triplet pattern in the video.
Connect Phrygian Dominant Exercise
To develop the exercis, one idea could be to go between rhythms, here’s a few ideas:
- 8th notes for a bar, 16th notes for a bar
- 16th note clusters, pair two clusters at a time, one bar each
- Broken triplets, this means you’ll play the rhythm as a shuffle
- Speed spyder rhythms, lots to choose from here
- Your own rhythms
By varying the scale exercises like this you will learn the patterns much quicker.
