Learn how to play the C(m) shaped Phrygian Dominant mode!
The C(m) shaped Phrygian Dominant is an awkward shape to improvise with.
When soloing with this shape, try using big interval jumps rather than one note after another.
Another trick would be to just leave the 3rd out, this might be a good idea in the C shape if you are just passing through.
However, if you leave it out all together then there is nothing that says you are in a major, apart from the chord behind off course!

C shaped Phrygian Dominant Exercise
Just like all modes, they stem from a scale.
The Phrygian Dominant scale stem from the Harmonic Minor scale.
Can you see how the C shaped PD scale is the same as an Em shaped D Harmonic Minor scale?
The formula for this scale is: 1 2 m3 4 5 b6 7
This means it is identical to an Em shaped Aeolian scale, except for the 7th interval.
Also compare the C shaped PD scale with the Em shaped Conspirian scale.
