Primary goal of this session was to :

    1) Work on left hand technique, curve finger, thumb behind neck, minimize finger movement up and away from key board.
    2) Today working on pinky, with regards to Item 1.
    3) Working 1 and 4 fingers.
    4) while doing this move it into helping to memorize the Gmaj Pentatonic.

Do get the ideas into a video I have to jump around a bit an include the mistakes, in the actually practice the same movement is done many times, I put this together on one take no preplanning to just get the ideas of the is out on video, I also play this back and analysis what I am doing while be distracted by the video recording, which would be similar to what happens beyond the sterile world of no body watching etc..

Doing stuff like this had significant benefits when I go back to playing songs I know. It like a whole new lease on playing; just doing stuff like this has made the most difference when integrated back in songs. Also I am attempting to do Guru’s Spyder Chromatic exercise better an am doing this as a preclude to eliminate some faults in my hand techniques. Tomorrow I shall spend a bit of time on 2 and 4.

Well before day even got through I was on to this one, yikes. Many issues most likely the tension and unsure nature of the thumb left hand.

See the attached photo this is what I have posted in front of me now when I practice .

This is the power I am learning of recording and evaluating it.

Too big of a gap, get closer to back of neck with palm of hand.

Actually the main problem with that picture is that the hand is not angled enough, it shouldn’t be a perfect cup like that, more twisted, so the middle of the bottom of you palm meet the ring finger, rather than middle.

    Makes sense?

This will allow the thumb to come up over the neck more.

What I’m explaining might not seem very holistic and relaxed, but it sure will soud a lot better!

And after all that’s what matters.

Overall a picture is always gonna be wrong since the thumb and palm need to be very active, not just in one place, you need to be playing with that part of the hand as well so to speak…

Hope this makes sense, difficult to describe in words…

    Guru,

Yes I am all over this thank you and your comments have brought me much more in tune with it. Just spotted Pat Martino on youtube playing both complicated notes and chords and watched his hand placement , particularly the thumb. And this is how you are explaining it. You know this subject only get more exciting , not sure how you feel about it but wow!

    Best Regards,
