Spiders (Chromatic exercises) from 6 onwards (where rhythms become less straight forward) to ensure we start off playing the exercise correctly at slow BPM is it advisable to count while playing to the metronome beat? e.g. for 16ths: 1 – e – & – a 2 – e – & – a etc.

The history thing was only to illustrate that it is a matter of style and preference
and that styles and preference change with time. It’s only a style and taste thing so either way it won’t be right or wrong. Yes the distance is different, so it will have a different sound. So which [...] -

I guess it comes down to context of the style. For example, in the early days of the church, the 4th was considered a preferred consonance over the 5th. In time, the 5th became the preferred consonance and more music was written with the 5th for harmony. This was true of quite a number of [...]

Its often the order of notes (mostly in relation to the base note) which can color the chord. E-A creates a relationship of a 4th in the low register which considered by some to be dissonant and less stable than a 5 in relation to the base such as A – E
. Try it [...] -

Yeah when I say sweep I mean continue the movement.
What you see in the video above is the shred sweep thing, the spyder sweep is to develop control as you “sweep”.
This is so you can go between strumming, picking alternatively and move from one string to the next in a natural way.

If the root is not the lowest note, and the low note is low, as in on string 6 or 5 you are looking at a slash chord. So A with E above, that’s a fifth, sounds good. A with E below is an A chord with the 5th in the bass, not a great [...]

What I still don’t understand is why the root has to be on the lowest string? For example, in playing the open A chord, the low E is muted. But we still have 2 other E notes in that chord, so why mute the lowest one?

It’s probably becuase if your just playing the open E and the open A then E is in the bass. It’s still the same notes as in an A power chord but because E is in the bass it’s now like an E sus4 kinda thing, because A is the fourth of E. You could [...]

Hi Guys, Just a quick question about perfect fifths. The perfect fifth of A is E. So when I play the A power chord (fifth fret of the 6th string and the 7th fret of the 5th string), it sounds like a powerful combination. However, it doesn’t sound so powerful when I play the open [...]

Yeah and play it on just one note before you start letting your fingers move.
