It seems like something someone calls “SEPR” ^^

I suppose you have to sing the note, not to say it…

  • Profile picture of nal nal said 3 months, 3 weeks ago ago:

Yeah, it’s kind of the SEPR equivalent of spelling intervals and chords and, eventually doing it automatically.

    I didn’t know what a b3 or m3 was when I started, let alone in comparison to a M3. But I think I’ve got the principles now…

    Hi Nal

Since you posted have to ask

This die he uses well that’s A dice in American English.

When it gets two the lesson 4 of the scale right beside the Bee Hive there is something called a fife.
What is this object even with a picture ????? I am not sure of what it is.

This stuff seems designed to you either use it and know it or you really don’t know it.

Again asking one question what is a fife or two questions as a Die and a Dice seem different.

    PS
This Dean Vaughn who Maxwell used the techniques from his book has developed the Vaughn Cube for music.
I know of only one person who purchased it, I think from the free previews it seems nice and the person who purchased it seemed very happy, this person did not get what the course claim which was 100% retention

Oh, mind putting a link, so I don’t have to read all the pages?

    Thanks

The Die I can live with
The Fife I need to know what it is and how to pronounce it in English.
    Thanks

Funny, I don’t remember those pictures from before…

I hadn’t read that Dean Vaughn stuff either, but I just checked out a few of the reviews. Most people seem happy with it.

They put up the first 5 lesson for free on you tube, here’s no 1 (although I haven’t watched it yet):

Yeah that fife seem like a odd duck as well.
I will look at that again
    Thanks

There is a 1 in the cube.cubes have 4 corners and four sides
I watched it once can’t forget.
    Alligator
    Bear
    Cat
    Dog
    Elephant
    Frog’s
    Giraffe

Then again I all ready knew the circle of fifths.

I had a quick watch through sow of the others. It more about memorizing and quick recall of facts.

In the first few videos u memorize which keys have sharps, how many sharps in each key and the spelling. Yes circle of 5th stuff, but definately effective. It advertises to go much further than that. I’ve done a memory course like this years ago.

People were amazed that I could recall everything as a party trick even if I only heard it once. I could be given like 100 things and do it randomly, forward, backwards etc. Someone had to write it down to check it.

Anyone can do it though, they just need to know what the secret is.

These approaches are not new, still, this is the first one I’ve seen like this for music theory. Interesting…

Well they were developed in 2004 I think so it not old.
I think the old way of learning it was best as you know the order of the scales and if I say 2 ,I think of the second chord not a dog that is well mannered.

But it is a memorized thing that about all music can be related too.
Old way I think it LOL

I see the shape of Equilateral Isosceles Scalene triangle in the basic chord shapes.

When I was a child there was not accelerated learning which is what this is.
I rode motorcycles, did martial arts and played music did other art stuff like draw, poetry .

There are 7 triad spellings they all use the same formula.
With the knowledge of the circle of fifths in your mind.
One should be able to take these 7 basic triad spelling and spell basic chords in any key.
    C major triads
    1st Chord = C E G 1 3 5
    2nd Chord = D F A 1 3 5 ( we moved 1 to start on the D then just counted )
    3rd Chord = E G B 1 3 5 same thing, moved 1 to the E note
    4th Chord = F A C 1 3 5 all we did here is continue our scale C D E F G A B C D E F G A B C D E etc.
    5th Chord = G B D 1 3 5
    6th Chord = A C E 1 3 5
    7th Chord = B D F 1 3 5

    Mnemonic device’s

You are using 3 fingers and have 4 so play the C in the bass of these and hear for yourself.
Change the F to F# it the new key, that still friends with C
Change the C the C# still have a few relatives.
Change the G to G# and there still an cousin hanging out.
Change the D to D# would need to use a mode to find some common ground LOL

Had a look at this, the thirds exercise for example, I can’t see how this is useful to be honest.

Memorizing letter combinations is a bit of a false dilemma.

Think of it in this way, do you really think: I’m playing a Bb when you improvise?

If so, you have to do that in all keys, and modes, which is madness, unachievable.

To think; I’m playing the third instead (for example) is related to the shape, which is moveable, would be so much better.

The cycle of thirds exercise for example, which Nal linked to, to do that inside the shapes would be a great exercise (it’s just arpeggios), but to be able to name the notes without a guitar, it’s a bit pointless.

I mean, what are you going to use it for?

Intervals is everything, to translate them to letters should always be secondary.

That is just silly… why think of a shoe?!? Surely it’s easier to count 1 2 3…
