Yes, I will take a lick idea from a song or a jam track and then in the lessons discuss how that could be developed.

Improvising is just that, developing melodic and rhythmical ideas over chord changes.

the 2 chord loops have help me greatly at my improvising, at least i know some target notes to start over the chord, as well as the blues jam videos that i’ve just started to cover the blues flavor

    give a […]

Yes, building phrases and improvise is something I need to talk about in the intermediate course, once we learned all chords and pentatonics I’ll start that.

As you say, you need to know them all.

    This is […]

    If C = I chord

I think what you have above is right, except perhaps the Gmaj, it should be G dominant or G Mixolydian??

    Assuming I is C…
I = c maj pent, or Cmaj7 arpeggio, or Ionian
    II = d min Pent, or […]

  • Guru replied to the forum topic what scale to play? in the group Music Theory 1 month ago

Ok so that’s got to be C major and therefore:

    C – Ionian
    A – Aeolian
    D – Dorian
    G – Mixolydian

or pentatonic or arpeggios over each.

Can you do it now that you are in the comfort of your own home?

  • stan replied to the forum topic what scale to play? in the group Music Theory 1 month ago

opps yes i just assumed so here’s what i played

    C Am Dm G7

so if i wanted to look at this as a new chord new scale
    would this be ok

    C-Cmaj same as Ionian
    Am-Am Penta
    Dm- Dm- Penta
    G7-Gmaj

  • Guru replied to the forum topic what scale to play? in the group Music Theory 1 month ago

You need to decide which of those chords are major and minor first.

C Am Dm G is most likely, so that’s all in C major.

    C Am D G is in G major…

i’m at a jam tonight having a great time and for the last number
    bass player calls out
    C A D G
some mental gymnastics and i come up with 1 6 2 5 for the progression
    so all good with that

    , then i got the […]

  • Okay, so I was learning some new seventh chord fingerings and looking at a scale chart to see how they fit inside a scale and I noticed that, for instance, while some Maj7 chords will fit into a given diatonic […]

    About the Satriani video.

Usually, what Satriani preach is not what I tend to agree with, not so with this video though, I love it!

What he is saying relates to guitar players who practice three note per […]

Ok, lots of good ideas here,

I agree with Jonathan, Conspiracy and 2 chord loops are my two strongest products.

The Work Book might be the most important one though, although it’s not too exciting when you […]

“I don’t know if this is the question stan is asking above, but I would like to know if (in your mode based system) a song in a minor key has a different “pull” or chord leading than one in a major […]

  • stan replied to the forum topic What Key in the group Music Theory 2 months ago

  • jonnys777 replied to the forum topic What Key in the group Music Theory 2 months ago

    No problem.

Yeah that sounds like a great idea – we’re all aiming to be at a point where we know what we’re hearing. I’m not there yet – but I’m definitely on my way :)

Any one familiar with the Drop Pentatonic Lydian scale which is used by fusion musicians over a Maj 7th chord ?

It’s modal stuff. Where are you at on the course? – In general the conspiracy says not to worry about vocal melodies until advanced.
