I think this is something that happens to a lot of people:
You have time for say 3 weeks, on and off and then you get a week or two where you don’t really have any time at all.
Here’s an experiment I’d like you to consider trying when in one of those periods of not having so much time.
The concept is to design an exercise that embrace all the things you have been learning lately.
So for you it could be:
Pentatonics off each chord around the E shape.
So thinking modally and in chord numbers like the chord progression exercise in advanced.
Play a pentatonic from each of those chords as well as an arpeggio.
Do this in cycle of 4ths.
So in the key of G, E shaped G maj pent, A shaped C maj pent, Em shaped F#min7b5 arpeggio, Am shaped Bm pent etc.
Once completed, do a run of only arpeggios (see master arpeggios).
Practice this for say 10 min, twice per day, no other practice, if you pick up the guitar just play for fun.
After a few days when this exercise is automatic, do the same starting on the D shape.
To invent exercises like this that tie in with each other is a really good idea. You know the big goal: to learn all shapes of chords, arpeggios, modes in all keys and shapes, but why not take a small slice of that and hammer it.
When you come back to a time in your life when you have 2 hours per day again, start practicing things individually again.
If you take this concept on, let me know how it pans out.
