Learn how to play I Wish!
Spy Tunes version of I Wish chords is recorded a semitone up from the original, this way open strings can be used for this one guitar arrangement.
The progression of the verse: II – V gives us a Dorian landscape to apply bass line and some chords.
The Pre-Chorus is slightly more complicated, the numbers would have to first be decided if they should be viewed as deriving from the key of D or E.
For the Chorus we are back to II – V, this build over to the instrumental section where we can here use different inversions of these two chords to support the melody of the verse.
To incorporate a melody into chords like the guitar does in I Wish might seem impossible at first.
However, if you have worked through the DIY TAB for previous songs you know that it’s always logical!
Pairing melody with chords
Since the melody will sit either inside a chord note, or soon move to one from a note near it, chord/melody is all ready connected, you just have to be able to see it.
Simply work out the melody, write it in the DIY TAB and pair it with the chords.
It is very likely that as long as you play the chord, the melody note will be inside it, simply find shapes that sound good with it.
Use Chordacus to look for more opportunities like this.
