10cc Changed Barbados for Jamaica in Dreadlock Holiday!

Bookmark and Share

'Dreadlock Holiday' was inspired by an experience the singer of 'Moody Blues' had as he went to Barbados, 10cc captured it and got their last U.K #1 out of it.

Released on the album 'Bloody Tourists' in 1978, 'Dreadlock Holiday' started its life as a chart hit, and since then it has been played on radio and nightclubs the world over, becoming especially famous for the line: "I don't like Cricket, I love it!"

10cc wasn't a reggae band, 'Dreadlock Holiday' was an exception to their repertoire.

The connection between the U.K and the Caribbean, both musically with British record shops importing reggae and ska music all ready in the 70s, and in sports such as Cricket.

10cc and Reggae

The lyrics referring to that the singer shouldn't be mugged since he likes Cricket has more to it than one might first think.

The Brits are very proud of their influence on the world, both musically but also with their sporting games that has spread around the globe.

Cricket, Tennis, Football, it all came from England.

If this historic value helped the Moody Blues singer himself when he traveled to Barbados (which was changed to Jamaica in the lyrics) remains uncertain.
