Verse and Chorus patterns
When the style of picking changes for the chorus, its main purpose is to ad a snare drum sounding “flick”.
Especially on beat two, the flick makes the arrangement feel as if it is more determined and drives forward in a different way to gentle finger style.
Pair this with the key change and we really do get the effect of the Chorus taking off.
Dream A Little Dream is a tricky song to learn the finger style pattern for, there are many chords to keep track of.
The finger style pattern is logical but all the different chords can at first make it seem a bit chaotic.
By slowly and accurately working out the pattern using the DIY TAB, it shouldn’t take you too long to see the patterns. If you all ready have learned Ain’t No Sunshine, Hey There Delilah, Blackbird and Tears In Heaven, it might even be easy!
The Acoustic Finger Style Guitar e Book’s first etudes might seem too basic for this song, but if you can’t clearly see the relationship between the picking pattern and the different chord shapes, you’ll never be able to improvise with this song.
As always, aim to understand the entire harmonic landscape, don’t just memorize the chords.
